This new TV spot for Disney’s “live-action” remake of The Lion King gives us our first idea of how superstar Beyonce will sound as Nala the lioness.
Disney has released an extended TV spot for the upcoming remake of The Lion King, and it spotlights Nala the lioness (Beyonce Knowles) as she tells Simba (Donald Glover) that he must take his rightful place as king.
This marks the first time we’ve heard Beyonce deliver any dialogue as Nala, who is expected to have a much larger role. The character only sang a duet (“Can You Feel The Love Tonight”) with Simba in the animated original, but she might get a new song for this adaptation.
The teaser also features some new footage of Simba’s climactic battle with his evil uncle Scar (Chiwetel Ejiofor), Pumbaa (Seth Rogen) and Timon (Billy Eichner) coming to the rescue, and more.
Director Jon Favreau’s all-new “The Lion King” journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his. The all-star cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon.
Disney’s The Lion King will charge into theaters on July 19, 2019
